The plans

What we actually do for you

We arrange private health cover for people who have moved to Spain, or are about to, and we do the whole of it in English: explain the plans, price the ones you can hold, go through the quote with you, and help put the policy in place.

That order matters. Most of the difficulty international residents have here is not choosing between plans — it is not knowing what the plans mean. A policy document written in Spanish, full of terms with no clean English equivalent, is a poor place to learn what a cuadro médico or a carencia is. So we explain first, and quote second, and you never have to agree to something you have not understood.

What you are actually choosing between

Underneath the plan names sit four decisions, and once you have made them the plan follows.

The first is whether you pay a small fee each time you use care, or nothing at all. The second is how far you want the cover to stretch before it meets a limit. The third is whether it has to work outside Spain. The fourth is whose lives it has to fit — a household with two young children and a single applicant in their late sixties are solving different problems.

The plan pages take each of those decisions in turn. None of them will tell you which plan is best, because that depends on facts about your life that only you have.

The guides come first

Everything on this site is built so you can understand the cover before anyone asks for your details. If you are new to private healthcare in Spain, how private health insurance works is the right first read: it runs from applying, through booking an appointment and getting treatment authorised, to claiming.

From there, the decisions have guides of their own. What it costs explains what actually drives a Spanish premium. Copayments and no-copayment cover explains the first big structural choice. Waiting periods explains why a policy that has started is not yet a policy you can use for everything. Pre-existing conditions explains how a medical history is treated. Hospitals and medical networks explains the single most under-examined part of any Spanish policy — where you would actually be treated.

How the quote works

You tell us your ages, your province, who needs covering and what matters to you. You do not send us medical detail through the website — the quote form asks only whether there is a health history to discuss, and that conversation happens properly with a person.

What comes back is a personalised quote: the plans available to you, what each costs for your household, what you would pay at the point of use, the hospitals and doctors you could reach near you, when each part of the cover becomes usable, and how your health history has been treated. We go through it with you in English, and you decide with the whole picture in front of you.

Where to go next

If you already know you want cover and just want to see the levels, go to the plans. If your situation is the complicating factor — you are over sixty, you have a family, you have a medical history, or you need cover that works beyond Spain — the plan pages are grouped around exactly those situations. And if you would rather understand the system before the product, start with healthcare in Spain.

What your personalised quote confirms

  • Which plans you can hold, given your age, province and household
  • What each plan costs for the people you want covered
  • What you would pay at the point of use, if anything
  • The hospitals, clinics and doctors you would have access to near you
  • When each part of the cover becomes available to use
  • How the answers you gave about your medical history have been treated
  • Which optional benefits you can add, and what each costs

Questions people ask about this plan

Do I need private health insurance in Spain?

It depends on your residence route, your work status and whether you have access to the public system. Our guides on public and private healthcare and on who can access public healthcare set out the entitlement question properly. Many international residents hold both: public entitlement for the safety net, private cover for speed, choice and being able to speak English to a doctor.

Will I be able to see an English-speaking doctor?

This is one of the main reasons international residents take private cover, and it is a genuine question to ask of any plan rather than assume. Which English-speaking doctors and hospitals you could reach depends on the network attached to the plan and on where you live, and your quote sets out the access you would actually have in your area.

How long does it take to arrange?

Getting a quote is quick. How soon cover can start depends on the plan, the answers on your health questionnaire and whether anything needs to be checked before the policy is issued. We tell you the timescale for your own application rather than a general one.

What if I already have a Spanish policy?

Then the questions are about continuity rather than about starting from scratch — what you would keep, what would restart, and whether moving is worth it at all. Our guide on switching health insurer in Spain covers the ground, and we will tell you honestly if staying put is the better decision.

Do you charge me for the advice?

No. We explain the cover, prepare the quote and help you arrange the policy. What you pay is the premium for the policy you choose.

What this page does and does not tell you

This page explains what we do and how the plans differ. It does not quote prices or state what any particular plan includes — those are product-specific, and they are confirmed in a personalised quote prepared for your circumstances before you apply.
